Located on the peninsula of Paliki, 7 km from Lixouri town, one can find Xi beach, definitely one of the most special locations in Kefalonia. It may not be one of my favourite beaches to swim on, as it is shallow, but I suggest you stop to admire the unique landscape, rub the clay on your body, and maybe enjoy a drink in one of the beach bars!
It is characterized by its grey rocky hills (20-30m high) that surround the beach and the reddish brown sand. Many people rub their bodies and faces with the clay of the surrounding cliffs as it is said to have cleaning properties. The grey clay, according to the ancient and modern scientists, has medicinal properties that can cure skin disorders and heal wounds. It is used for detoxification and many other disorders and injuries.
Xi beach took its name from the cove that has the shape of the letter X. The beach is ideal for kids as it is quite shallow and is fully organised, there is a part of it with free of umbrellas and sunbeds. Τhere are several beach bars just above the hill that serve snacks and drinks as well as watersport facilities, including water ski and jet ski.
If you do not have a car, there is a bus service from Lixouri or Argostoli to the beach. The area has a selection of accommodation facilities as well as tavernas. I suggest you combine this location with a visit to Lixouri Town, Vatsa beach, Kipouria monastery or/and Petani beach.
