July and August are the busiest months on the island of Kefalonia, the heat is often too intense for rigorous activities, and total seclusion becomes impossible. I would suggest that if you are able to visit us in the low season you could take advantage of lower costs and a more peaceful holiday! In some cases the accommodation – can be up to half it’s normal price! Services are often better too and you may not need to book in advance. Flights are more affordable during the low season, and this year Kefalonia is a destination from even more cities and airports than before!
If you enjoy walking or hiking there’s no better time to visit Kefalonia than in the cooler, but temperate months. From April to June, before the onset of the hottest sunshine, the island blooms with wildflowers and herbs, trees become alive with blossom and wildlife abounds. Again, after the hottest months have passed, from September to November, the island’s nature comes alive and provides excellent colours and opportunities for walking and hiking. Temperatures are ideal for walking during these weeks and it is also quieter, giving a real sense of island life before and after the bustle and heat of the busiest months have passed.
Following are some of the trails we have visited (many more will be uploaded soon):
Drapanitika to Assos, Assos Castle, Kapsilimionas, Ancient Sami, Themata, 7 water mills trail, “Faros”- Fiskardo trail, Botanical Garden, De Bosset Bridge, Fiscardo walking trails, Atros Monastery, Ainos Mountain, Zoodohos Pigi Monastery, Traces of old Agia Efimia, Karavomilos Lake
The guided option from an experienced guide is highly recommended, as a more exciting and certainly safer option. Whatever your interests and level of fitness we can arrange your ideal hiking day or even holiday in Kefalonia. Contact us to book a unique day out in Kefalonian nature!

I am from the lake district in England and enjoy fell walking, I will be on kefalonia 1st week in august and I know it will be hot but is there any walks that will not be too strenuous in the heat. can you hire a guide or is there organised walks in fiscardo area.

Thank you for your message! There are very nice signposted walks at the area of Fiscardo, most of them partly under the trees shade, and quiet easy. Check this link https://www.kefaloniabyanna.com/fiscardo-trails/
If you are looking for a guided tour, this can be arranged as well, please come back to me closer to the date of your arrival
Hi Anna,
Lovely website and blog! We’re hoping for some advice, please. We have a chance to come to Kefalonia from 29/09 – 07/10 this year. In your experience, is it too cold for sea and pool swimming at this time of year? We have a 3 year old little girl who loves to swim – but we’re a little worried that it might be a little cold, already.
We would stay near Fiscardo harbour and hope to find some quiet family activities there.
Thanks in advance.
Frank
