Activities
There are many walking trails in this area, including Agia Efimia to Themata Monastery, Traces of Old Agia Efimia, and walking paths to Myrtos, to Drakopoulata (you could admire here the remains of the old village), to Divarata and in and around the valley. Walking around Makriotika village evokes the atmosphere of days gone by and stop to relax for a coffee or a nice meal in one of the three tavernas.
Organised boat tours leave from the harbour at Agia Efimia for various day trips such as the vessel Romantika, or you can rent a small hire boat from one of the companies in the harbour like Boulevard Boats to explore the seas yourself! A water taxi service also leaves from the harbor. If you prefer to see what’s below the surface you can go diving with Makis at the Aquatic Scuba Diving Club. Rent a scooter or a car from the village or hire a bicycle from Boulevard Boats to fully explore the region or further afield.
If you want to explore the island or Ithaka without driving taking an excursion is a great way to do it! We can arrange four different excursions that include pick-up and drop-off from convenient locations in Agia Efimia, Karavomylos and Sami; Fiskardo by Night, North of Kefalonia, Island Highlights, and Mythical Ithaka!
During the first weeks of July the village hosts a street market, church services and entertainment to celebrate the Saints name day on the 11th July, it’s a fabulous way to connect with the locals and experience some local and traditional culture, it’s free and everyone is welcome to participate.
Various concerts and events take place throughout the tourist season, starting with a small flower market and wreath making on Protomagia (May Day) to celebrate Greek Labour Day. Check our calendar of events
There are many waterfront tavernas, restaurants and cafes in Agia Efimia, some with live music, take a walk and look out for notice boards with special events.
You can enjoy trying local delicacies with a small group with Taste Kefalonia Food Experience !
Food & Drink
From sea-side dining to authentic village tavernas Pylaros has a great variety of places with a special atmosphere! It’s also a great place to pick up some traditional products. Here are our favourites.
Combine a visit with swimming from the rocks below or the beaches in Agia Efimia with a laid back lunch or coffee, or a special dinner at Sea Rock ws. It mixes the traditional and the contemporary, offering a twist on Greek fare served in a beautiful garden, with great sea views. Try to visit on a full moon – the night views can be awesome too! Close by is Amalia, a family run taverna, with tasty local homemade food and amazing sea views. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner and on some night’s traditional acoustic music and singing takes place. Next to the harbor is the popular contemporary bar and restaurant Carena – they serve snacks, meals and a wide variety of drinks, cocktails, teas, and coffees. A cool hang out for locals and visitors alike, with some live music nights. Visit one of the tavernas in the square after a walk around the traditional village of Makriotika or after a swim at Myrtos. Have lunch or dinner at The Black Sheep Grill House located just off the main road between Agia Efimia and Myrtos Beach. It’s a family taverna serving traditional meat dishes – the meat is organic. Myrtillo Shop is located at the junction of Divarata so on your way to Myrtos you can try and buy local delicacies such as honey, jams and soaps, and find about the life of bees in a short presentation. There is a nice little garden at the back of the shop with tables were you could sit an enjoy a healthy snack.
Shopping
Whether you are sailing, fishing or just having fun on the beach, you can find the necessary equipment at Agia Efimia Chandlers, located on the harbour front! For Greek and Kefalonian food and beauty products pop into Myrtillo Shop at the Divarata crossroads.
