Star-gazing seems to be an experience that a lot of visitors want to live while on holidays. I get many e-mails about it so I am very happy to announce that this year too a special event like that will be taking place on our beautiful peak of Ainos mountain. Take your jacket and reach the peak to cool your body down, enjoy the peacefulness of our mountain and discover the wonders of the universe!
Mountain Ainos apart from its magical beauty and explicit views over the island was first declared a National Park in 1962 and houses the heart of Kefalonia’s biodiversity. Recently was announced as the first Dark Sky Park of Greece, as according to the experts is “possesses an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage, and/or public enjoyment”. The mountain has also its own observatory and astronomical research centre.
If you are lucky enough to be here on the 16th of June or the 5th of July and some more days mentioned on their site, a stargazing event will take place at Mt Ainos Peak, managed and protected by the Management Body of Mt. Ainos National Park.
New event 16 June, for more details check here https://www.facebook.com/events/1384568872241116
By participating in this event, you will help raise awareness regarding the biodiversity, flora, fauna and avifauna of Kefalonia, while at the same time, you will experience a spectacular sky full of stars, away from the city’s light pollution. Don’t miss your chance to participate in this unique event.
