Porto Atheras Beach is located approximately 14km north of Lixouri on the Paliki Peninsula, and is easily reachable by car, or by foot from Atheras village – at about a distance of 3.2km. On the journey down to the beach, winding through the traditional village roads of Atheras, stop and admire the stunning, unspoilt views – the beach is nestled between lush green hillsides and terraces, and the sea is a fabulous palette of blue and turquoise waters.
The curved sandy beach is surrounded by nature, and has beautifully clean and shallow waters making it particularly attractive to families. The waters are generally calm and somewhat warmer than other places on the island, so the beach is perfect for swimming and snorkelling and you may encounter some yachts and small boats anchoring up in the bay. Locals and visitors alike love this beach, it’s purely pleasurable to be there. If you like hiking, there are several paths with which to explore the area. There is a path that leads to the small striking beach of Amidi which takes you through some wonderful scenery.
The beach is not organised and has no natural shade, you need an umbrella if you want to spend most of your day here. By the beach you will find the family taverna Drosos, offering great views and great food, snacks and coffee.
The beach can be also reached by taxi transfer or boat rental from Agia Kyriaki.
