Mountain Ainos apart from its magical beauty and explicit views over the island was first declared a National Park in 1962 and houses the heart of Kefalonia’s biodiversity. Recently was announced as the first Dark Sky Park of Greece, as according to the experts is “possesses an exceptional or distinguished quality of starry nights and a nocturnal environment that is specifically protected for its scientific, natural, educational, cultural heritage, and/or public enjoyment”. The mountain has also its own observatory and astronomical research centre.
If you are lucky enough to be here on the 8th of July and some more days mentioned on their site, a stargazing event will take place at Mt Ainos Peak, managed and protected by the Management Body of Mt. Ainos National Park.
