Makriotika is one of my favourite villages on the island, a pretty, well-maintained and traditional village located on the slopes of Agia Dynati in the valley.
Just 5km from both Myrtos beach and Agia Efimia, it is worth taking a stroll around the village to see the colourful gardens, with fruit trees, pots and wild herbs and flowers at the edges of the narrow roads and footpaths.
There are some traditional buildings and pre-earthquake houses. The main square has great panoramic views down the valley to Agia Efimia and the sea.
The village has two family tavernas, including the friendly and traditional Maklithari Taverna located on the main road with tables on the square and taverna Nihterida. There is also a mini market with butchers inside (his own organic meat from the mountains), a school, and an Olive Story Museum.
You can reach the village by car or by foot using the signed walking trail from Agia Efimia.
