The KYMATA Film Festival is an international annual event held on the island of Kefalonia at the end of August. Set 2km from the capital of Argostoli, the festival takes place in a very special location, at the Municipal Building Complex of Thalassomylos, just next to the sea. You can get here by car, or even better on foot from the capital, following the beautiful trail that leads to the Lighthouse of St Theodoroi and the Katavothres.
Established in 2022, KYMATA remains the only film festival in the Ionian Islands, dedicated to showcasing the best films from around the world. It serves as a platform for independent filmmakers, encouraging bold, original, and boundary-pushing cinematic works. The festival was founded by director Marinos Sklavounakis and, as of 2024, includes a competitive section.
The festival features screenings of short films and special feature presentations, along with a diverse program of parallel events, including workshops, masterclasses, music concerts, and exhibitions.
In 2023, the festival featured a special tribute to Serbian cinema, while in 2024, it honoured Italian cinema along with several Greek directors. If you’re on the island during the last week of August, be sure to attend one of the screenings, workshops, or concerts. For details on upcoming events, visit their website.
