Theotokos Myrtidiotissa is honoured in Kefalonia at St. Dionysios church (or Church of Virgin Mary in Drapano) where the Sacred Icon is kept. Theotokos Drapaniotissa is the Patron of Argostoli and is also known as “Panagia of Drapano”.
Celebrated on the 24th of September, where ceremonies in her honour take place and include Vespers and Divine Liturgy officiated by the Metropolitan of Kefalonia in the presence of the municipal officials. A litany takes place in the afternoon of the 25th and a procession leaves the church (around 17:00hrs) and moves over the De Bosset Bridge (a beautiful custom even if you are not religious) and through the streets of Argostoli, a prayer is said at the main square and the icon is then taken to St. Spyridon Church on Lithostroto.
It is customary for the icon to remain in this church for one week during which Vespers and Divine Liturgy are held. At the end of the week, on October 2nd the icon is returned, once again by the procession, to Drapano Church. This holiday is also celebrated in Ag. Thekli village in Lixouri.
